Catalog Flower Plant Seed

Posted on February 18, 2010.
Catalog Flower Plant SeedWhy is it that no flower / seed catalogs will be shipped to Alaska?

None of the company, even the most famous and popular will ship to Alaska. They will not ship seeds, bulbs or live plants or trees. Anyone know of any place that will? Or am I just stuck with the small selection of crap that Wal Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Fred Meyers, Etc. a. I want a wider choice of flowers to choose. And since the flower shops can be shipped, why can not I order "from a seed catalog?

I live in Alaska and agree on the choice of shit in local stores. Try my old favs standby:
Thompson-Morgan ships to Alaska.

I have had literally thousands of beautiful flowers (and vegetables, too) from seeds that I ordered it.

Try the peaceful valley farm & Garden Supply:

that have great prices and reliable seeds in packages of various sizes.

and Raintree Nursery http://www.raintreenursery.com/catalog/i ...
Raintree is my favorite berry bushes and small trees rustic. Try blueberries: Maine, New Brunswick, Chippewa, North Sky, and Patriot all well here in our acid soil cold, they remember only as much water. Both currants, black currants, and Blue Honeysuckle, which produces a nice big bush with lots of blueberries, such as edible berries.

I would say that perhaps the state of Alaska has tight restrictions on what can be imported into the state. Many of the Alaskan wilderness is open and natural reserves. Thus, they may want to limit what comes into the state to avoid non-native plants release into the environment. Many non-native plants can become invasive and extremely harmful to native plants.

Another reason could be that the winters are so severe here that non-native plants could not survive the winter, anyway. Thus, seed and plant suppliers did not even bother trying to sell their products to people in Alaska.

Try these

Burbee I can restrict certain plants, as they may be invasive.

Some also because if the plants are shipped by land and then they will need a phytosanitary certificate for transit through Canada, then another to go to Alaska.
