Hypoglycemic IndexDealing with blood sugar or hypoglycemia? You do not want to mess with the Dirty Dozen

Some of you (baby boomers in particular) might remember the Dirty Dozen, a war movie blockbuster of 1967 with a cast that included amazing Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Jim Brown, John Cassavetes, Robert Ryan, Charles Bronson Donald Sutherland, George Kennedy, Telly Savalas.

Well, this article is not about that Dirty Dozen. He speaks a dozen foods that are really bad and dirty work for you if you are a carer in blood sugar or hypoglycemia. The film's characters were bad guys, this list of foods are bad foods. All twelve of them. avoid them whenever possible.

Bad food, white rice # 12:

All foods sit on a continuum regarding their sugar content at what speed they are used in your body. This is called the glycemic index.

To maintain your blood sugar steady with peaks and valleys low as possible, you need to slow down the speed at which your body converts food to different types of sugar used and stored in your body. The best way is to eat foods that, in addition to providing all the right elements of nutrition, burn very slowly.

Since the goal is to slow the speed at which your food is broken, it is important to avoid hypoglycemia fast burning, high-glycemic foods from sugar, but also including refined foods. This includes white flour, white rice, and other refined grains and polished.

Bad food, white bread # 11:

Yes, it is a junk food for hypoglycemia. Each time you look at a slice of white bread that you see a slice of sugar - it acts in the body the same way.

Bad food # 10-Donuts:

Think of it as white bread dipped in sugar. What could be worse? No wonder there is a large hole in the middle - it's a nutritional zero. What was just said about applies to cookies and cakes in general. Everything is made from white flour and lots of sugar, not to mention shortening, coloring and preservatives, is bad for you!

Bad food, alcohol # 9:

Alcohol, like sugar, contains only calories. It has no nutritional value at all and moves very quickly into the bloodstream. This affects your glucose levels very suddenly, and there is a corresponding decrease in blood sugar that alcohol leaves your system.

In diabetes, you can control your blood sugar with insulin injection. In the hypoglycemia is not possible, and if you eat and drink foods that play havoc with your blood sugar in the blood, you just have to live with the symptoms. Better then, to avoid alcohol and feeling that goes with decayed.

A caution: Read the labels on all your medicines, many of which include alcohol. You need to find alternatives if possible. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have prescription drugs that contain alcohol, and ask for help to find an alternative without alcohol. Some plans also include allergy to alcohol, so check with your doctor.

Alcohol, especially when eaten with carbohydrates, can cause an excessive release of insulin and lead to episodes of hypoglycemia. The most common scenario is when you drink alcohol and carbohydrate alone, like a gin (alcohol) and tonic (pure carbohydrate) and a small cracker or cookie. This is a recipe for disaster and can cause hypoglycemia and its accompanying symptoms, even if you never symptoms differently. The occasional presence of alcohol induced hypoglycemia is not necessarily an indication that you are, or will become a chronic hypoglycemia, but whether or not chronic, low blood sugar is hard on your body and should ALW.
