How many grams of whey protein are in the liquid that is leftover when you make yogurt cheese? Can someone please direct me to a link that provides nutritional information on the whey that is drained and the cheese yogurt itself.
Thank you!
To make yogurt cheese you separate the milk solids from whey, like when they make regular cheese.
8 ounces of yogurt has about 8 grams of protein, yogurt made with skim milk has 13 grams. cottage cheese, ricotta cheese and cream cheese were all between 23 and 35 grams of protein per 8 oz One cup of strained Greek yogurt (about the consistency of sour cream) has 20g. The main reason is that you reduce the total volume and concentration of milk solids. This brings us to the idea that 8 ounces (one cup) of fluid milk is between 8 and 35g. Another way is to find that 20% of the protein in milk is in the whey, so you can take 20% of the total protein present in the yogurt you eat (the entire container, not just size portions).
a recipe I found here

They said 14.2 grams of whey separated 1 cup whole milk yogurt.
I must ask, why do you know? If you want to use water from the whey for recipes, then go for it! Do you need to know the exact content because any extra protein will not hurt you? If you are looking to get a given amount of protein per day for a special diet then the best way of doing it is the whey protein powder.
Honestly, with all the techniques of sterilization and hours of work, I go with whey protein isolate, high quality, chemical free reputable dealer. This way, you know it has not been contaminated (something there are many warnings against when you do it yourself) and you know exactly how much protein you are getting!
Hope this helps!
