If you suffer from hypertension, your doctor will probably ask you to reduce your salt intake. It is a fact that the levels of salt in food can cause hypertension to worsen significantly.

Reducing salt may seem like a terrible prescription for many. They fear that a diet low in sodium is equal to bad taste, tasteless food.

This is not necessarily true. It is quite possible to reduce salt consumption and enjoy delicious food too. Here are some ideas you can try.

  • First things first, avoid salt substitutes potassium chloride. Why? Because they can lead to a dangerous increase in potassium levels in the body and cause many problems, including heart rhythm abnormalities.
  • Have you noticed when you are tempted to add more salt to your food? This is when food seems to be bland or tasteless. To avoid this problem altogether. Make sure the food looks attractive and has enough variety, including colors and textures. This way, you're less likely to impulsively add extra salt.
  • The salt is added to canned vegetables during processing. If you are using canned vegetables, wash them with water to remove salt. If possible, use fresh vegetables.
  • Do you eat lots of starchy foods like pasta that will use pads? It is easy not to add salt to them because the toppings add flavor to food and lack of salt is not noticeable at all.

  • Eat a balanced diet and strive for balance in your salt intake as well. For example, if you enjoy a relatively high salt meal for dinner, keep your breakfast and lunch to low salt content.
  • Try marinating meat in wine. You can also add wine to soups and other foods. During cooking, the alcohol evaporates, but the wine will improve the flavor. This is an excellent option for reducing sodium intake.
  • Substitute salt with red pepper, green pepper and paprika for added flavor.
  • When you buy food, read labels carefully. Remember to choose only foods low in sodium. And beware of additives that can increase the sodium content.
  • Try orange juice to marinate the meat and poultry. You can use the lemon juice too.
  • garlic salt and onion salt is just salt, with flavoring added. Do them. Use fresh garlic or onions for flavoring.
  • Try mixtures of herbs and spices for flavor. Many of them are without salt (do not forget to check.) You can also buy many types of fruit peel, herbs and spices. Experience and know what works best for you.

Use some of these options to create a tasty, low-salt diet but still low. These changes go a long way to control blood pressure.
