Potatoes In Containers

Posted on January 26, 2010.
Potatoes In ContainersI want to grow potatoes in containers half the size garbage .. What should I fill them?

Top soil? Compost? Sand?

I use a combination of general purpose compost, topsoil after 10% sand, and (this sounds crazy, but trust me) almost half a bucket of sawdust, my grandfather 'm learned that and it never failed for me

good luck mate!

Just the soil with some compost mixed through it.

I agree, the normal soil with compost or manure mixed in. Potatoes are very hungry and as much moisture.

3 parts topsoil (take all the big stones) in an old bed of compost mushrooms.

As others have said use a good light medium drainage in your container. Please make sure you have good drainage in containers, such as potatoes do not like being flooded, and if allowed, they will just all mushy.
