The ancient Greeks were the first to learn the secret of mixing flour and water. The dough is rounded and flattened, then heated over hot stones. The round flat bread found its' way to Italy. In the 18th century, the flat bread was called "pizza". The pizza is a cheap meal and sold by vendors in Naples to the population. Keep in mind there was no topping on pizza yet.

Queen Margherita was very loved by his subjects. In the late 19th century, King Umberto and Queen Margherita of Spain have been touring Naples. Queen Margherita was curious about the bread round, flat she saw several of his subjects to eat in the street. His guards were ordered to bring him a pizza dough. Queen Margherita loved the bread.

To her delight at the Queen Margherita summoned Chief Esposito Rafaelle his pizzeria to the royal palace to bake a selection of pizzas for the court. Rafaelle made a special pizza for the queen. Changes began to spread throughout Italy. The meat was presented in Bologna and Neapolitan pizza has cheese, herbs and vegetables.

Pizza has become popular in America and Western Europe after the Second World War. While western troops occupied territories Italy they were first introduced to pizza. Pizza Margherita

From pre-baking the dough to thin crispness to the finished cake with balsamic vinegar, this recipe is 30 minutes full of tasty stuff that made it one of our most popular pizzas.

4 servings (serving size: 2 pieces)

Ingredients

1 (10 ounce) can refrigerated pizza crust dough

Cooking Spray

1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil, divided

1 clove garlic, halved

5 plum tomatoes, chopped (about 3 / 4 pound)

1 cup (4 ounces) shredded mozzarella

1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar

1 / 2 cup chopped fresh basil

1 / 8 c. teaspoon salt

1 / 8 c. teaspoon black pepper

Preparation

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Unroll the pastry crust on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray, Pat into a rectangle 13 x 11 inch. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes. Remove crust from oven and brush with 1 / 2 c. tea oil. Rub the crust with cut sides of garlic.

Arrange tomato slices on crust, leaving a 1/2-inch border; sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 400 ° for 12 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is golden.

Mix 1 / 2 teaspoon oil and vinegar, stirring with a whisk.

Sprinkle with basil pizza cut, salt and pepper. Pour the vinegar mixture evenly on the pizza. pizza cut into 8 pieces.
